Student Life
It is easy to see why Gainesville, Florida, is recognized as one of Florida’s most livable cities as it flourishes in the heart of beautiful North Central Florida. Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, the area basks in beautiful sunshine during the daytime while the cool breezes make summer nights comfortable.
In the heart of Gainesville is The University of Florida, a major public, state-supported, land-grant research university with a wide range of academic and research programs on its campus. UF is the state’s oldest and largest university and is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, comprised of the top 63 public and private institutions in the country. The University of Florida, with an enrollment of approximately 50,000 students, houses comprehensive and well-equipped laboratories and libraries and offers great opportunity for collaborative programs and research. UF is home to Shand’s Teaching Hospital, one of the Southeast’s premiere centers for medical research and treatment, and it has some of the highest ranking medical departments in the country. Student living is enjoyable with plentiful biking and walking routes, many cultural and recreational activities on campus including The UF Performing Arts Center, The Harn Museum, and several recreation and fitness centers.
